OPEN CALL FOR THE FILMMAKING WORKSHOP SKENA

OPEN CALL FOR THE FILMMAKING WORKSHOP SKENA

1/

We are pleased to announce the open call for the filmmaking workshop SKENA, dedicated to young people who want to learn how to create a short film scene with a focus on dialogue and storytelling. Developed within the Neo_School program, this workshop is designed to build cinematic skills through hands-on practice and group work, under the guidance of professional lecturers and mentorship throughout all stages of project development.

During this intensive workshop (March 2-20, 2026), participants will develop a short film scene (1–2 pages) by going through the main steps of the creative process: from the initial idea and dramaturgical analysis, character development, writing and rewriting dialogue, to shooting and editing the material. Participants will also work with actors, focusing on visual storytelling through scene analysis, camera language, shot selection, and atmosphere. The workshop includes critical script readings, as well as taking on different roles on each other’s sets, allowing participants to gain artistic experience and practical skills in using professional camera, lighting, and sound equipment.

The process will be guided by mentors and film professionals who will provide both individual and group feedback throughout the development of the projects.

After 10 days of classes, participants will shoot their scenes using Kino Armata’s spaces. The final phase of the workshop will be dedicated to the montage of the materials under the artistic supervision of the mentors. The program will conclude with a public screening of all completed scenes, followed by a discussion with the directors.

Neo_School: SKENA is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and The European Endowment for Democracy (EED)

WHY SKENA?

A scene is a fundamental unit of cinema, a continuous segment of action, dialogue, or events that takes place within a specific space, constructed from different shots and shaped through editing. A well-made scene has a clear dramatic focus that advances the story, develops characters, reveals information, or creates conflict. Designing and executing a film scene is one of the most challenging aspects of filmmaking. In Kosovo, young filmmakers have limited access to structured training with practical mentorship. SKENA workshop aims to create a space for learning, exploration and development of cinematic skills through mentorship, hands-on work, and group collaboration.
